A viral story of a typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan)
victim has gone viral after it was posted on "Splendor of the Church” blog on
November 11, 2013.
The story was shared and spread by a certain Mai Militante from Ilo-ilo City when one of his staff with others were fleeing their abode to escape the wrath of the typhoon and sought refuge to a safer place. According to the story, while traversing the road under a stormy condition, feeling exhausted and all wet, they approached an Iglesia Ni Cristo church building to take shelter for the time being. However, the typhoon victims claimed that they were denied to enter the church building for a reason that they are not member of the said church.

They have not expected this kind of reception
from a religious group knowing that it’s a customary in the Philippines for
churches to open their doors for all people especially in times of great
calamities.
Here’s the full story of Mai Militante
recounting the experience of her staff:
Mai Militante
Story of our
staff from yolanda typhoon incident…. they were walking from estancia to
balasan road…it was still raining and they were soaking wet, hungry, tired and
dead scared…
they stopped
and thought they could rest at the church of Iglesia in Cristo… but people from
the that church told them they cannot come in bcoz they are not members of that
church… i was shocked with this story…. as they say “what u sow so shall you
reap.” Grabe…
As of this writing, there’s no official statement coming
from the headquarters of the Iglesia Ni Cristo about this incident.
Whether this incident is true or not, I am not in a position to judge or to condemn. However, as a christian, if I were in a position to help, then I would take that opportunity to reach out.
