World renowned American Journalist and CNN
anchor Anderson Cooper is in Tacloban City, Philippines covering the aftermath
of the massive destruction brought by typhoon Haiyan.
In his “Anderson Cooper 360” program in CNN, he
reported his first impression about the impact of the typhoon in Tacloban City and
the relief operation by the Philippine government.
In the report, he described the current
situation in the hard-hit city. He said “It’s a miserable situation here, it does not seem
to be getting better day by day. We’re now entering the fifth day since the
storm hit here in Tacloban…… it’s a very desperate situation among the most
desperate I’ve seen in covering disasters…..”.
He further commented on the non-existence of an
organized relief operation by the government. "No real
evidence of organized relief and rescue operation around Tacloban. I haven't
seen much of a relief effort, I haven't seen a large military presence", Cooper said

Listening from these negative reports, I can’t
help but ask why does it take so long for the government to provide the much needed
help to the victims. Is this an indication of how incapable and unprepared
the Philippines is in this kind of disaster?

Hi. I heard of first hand experience from Leyte. The soldiers aren't sleeping, the volunteers keep helping those within their reach. They are still in a state of shock. Yung tipong pakiramdam na nanlulugmok ka din.

The government is doing their best to give relief. The private sector has to help.
